India as being the birthplace of yoga hosts a variety of events, festivals, and conferences. Yoga enthusiasts from all over the world come to attend these events. 

Yoga is a way of life. It not only strengthens the body but your mind and soul too. Here are some of the festivals and events held in India:

International Yoga Day is held on June 21 every year. This day is celebrated with great enthusiasm through practicing yoga, meditation, debates, discussions, and seminars in schools, colleges, offices, and social gatherings. People from all walks of life come together to celebrate yoga!

It is celebrated on June 21 as it is the longest day of the year with the sun rising early and setting late for the northern hemisphere. Yoga teacher training in India is a good way to know the history of  Yoga.

The International Yoga Festival is celebrated in Rishikesh in Parmarth Niketan Ashram on the banks of River Ganges. The upcoming dates of this festival are from 1st to 7th March 2020.

The International Yoga Festival is a peaceful event organized on the shores of River Ganges with a positive and spiritual ambiance having people from across the world. The main objective of this festival is to promote the harmony of the body, mind, and soul. Some of its main features include sessions on Pranayama, Hatha Yoga and Yog Nidra.

This festival includes the traditional yoga ancestry of India. Teachers of yoga schools and styles share their knowledge and experience to the people participating in this festival.

It is held for one week and covers over 70 hours of Yoga classes under renowned Yoga teachers. The Government of Puducherry has been organizing the International Yoga Festival since 1992. This festival is met with wonderful response and enthusiasm from participants from all across the globe, so this festival is held annually. 

This festival encompasses Yogis from all over the world, trying to develop a conscious process at all the levels of the human body and brain which includes – physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well being. 

The upcoming dates for this festival are 4-7 January 2020.

Sun Sun Love Yoga Solstice Fest is held in Barcelona in Summer Solstice and Arunachala, Tamil Nadu in Winter Solstice. Yoga is the main practice of this festival.

Meditation with the Sun rising and setting is a beautiful and enriching experience and takes place every day in these festivals. It connects you with yourself and others and the festival also includes dancing, singing, sharing experiences and living close to nature.

6. International Yoga and Music Festival

International Yoga & Music Festival is a little different from the International Yoga Festival. The event is held for a week and is set in Rishikesh. It aims to combine yoga with Indian classical and contemporary music.

It is free of cost and many yogis and yoga teachers from across the globe attend this festival. It is held in November annually, where people enjoy live Indian classical music and dance.

Yoga World Festival is held in Tamil Nadu with the aim to rejoice the rich South Indian methods of the yoga of developing a guided, powerful and peaceful mind. 

It is an annual event which attracts yoga practitioners and yoga lovers from across the globe. The yoga classes start from 4:30 AM till 9:30 PM. Furthermore, multi-cultural programs with ancient Indian traditional music and dance are conducted every evening during the festival period which adds more flavors to the event.

9. Bhakti Yoga

The popular India Yoga Festival organizes a Bhakti Camp, in the backwaters of Kerala. It is fully residential and has a special focus on the bhakti or devotional school of yoga, with lessons on the yoga practice and insights through chants and kirtans. It also brings together different cultures and forms of asanas with the Thai Yoga Massage, Acro Yoga and Bhakti Pranayama. It takes place on houseboats with swamis, ashram directors and yoga teachers from India and other countries. .
